Acceptance Criteria
- An applicant requesting acceptance as a full-time Master student must meet the following conditions:
- The applicant must have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education in Israel or abroad, with a final grade of at least 76 in each department of undergraduate studies.
- A candidate with a B.A. from an accredited institution of higher education in Israel or abroad who studied in a double-major track and attained a final grade lower than 76 but not less than 70 in one of departments, may be accepted as a full-time student only if he/she has earned a final grade of at least 80 in the department in which the M.A. studies will be pursued.
- Application forms and all required documents.
- Fulfilled all other requirements set by the department.
- A candidate who has confirmation of his/her entitlement to a Bachelor’s degree with a final grade that meets the acceptance criterion, but is required to take at most two supplementary courses (and not more than 8 weekly semester hours) may, with the recommendation of the department’s M.A. Committee and the approval of the Dean of Graduate Studies, be accepted as a full-time student. This student’s entitlement to the M.A. degree will be conditional on fulfilling all supplementary courses.
- A student who studied in a double-major track or in a single-major track and did not complete all requirements for the B.A. is entitled to register for Master’s degree studies as a conditional student, subject to the following terms:
- The student completed all course-attendance obligations for the B.A. degree.
- The number of courses for which no final grade has yet been received allows, in accordance with the recommendation of the departmental Master’s degree studies committee and in the judgment of the Dean of Graduate Studies, their completion by the end of the first semester of the student’s Master’s studies.
- It remains for the student to submit at most one seminar paper in the department in which the Master’s studies will be pursued.
- The student has presented an updated and detailed grade transcript.
- The student submitted an application form and all required documents on time.
After all B.A. requirements are completed, the candidate’s average grade must meet University and/or department requirements for acceptance into a Master’s program. A conditional student will be transferred to the status of full-time student if he/she completes all B.A. obligations by the end of the first semester of the first year of M.A. studies. Students who do not meet this condition, will be required to terminate their studies.
- An applicant who has confirmation of his/her entitlement to a B.A. degree with a final grade that meets the acceptance criterion, but is required to take up to 4 supplementary courses in the department (and not more than 16 weekly semester hours), may, with the recommendation of the Departmental M.A. Committee and the approval of the Dean of Graduate Studies, be accepted as a conditional student. This student will have to finish the supplementary courses by the end of the first year of Master’s studies in order to be transferred to full-time student status. The supplementary courses will not be included in the framework of credit hours toward the Master’s degree.
Supplementary-studies students applying for M.A. studies
- Candidates who meet the University’s criteria for acceptance to a Master’s degree but the Departmental M.A. Committee requires that they take supplementary courses at a scope exceeding 16 weekly semester hours may, subject to the approval of the department chairperson and the Master’s degree committee, be accepted for supplementary studies toward applying for a Master’s program. Upon finishing the required supplementary courses, they will re-register and apply for the M.A. program. These students are not handled by the Graduate Studies Authority.
- Students who do not meet the University’s criteria for acceptance to Master’s studies but attained a final score of between 70 and 75 in both majors of their B.A. studies may apply for supplementary studies (in the framework of the Bachelor’s degree program) toward the M.A.. If the Departmental M.A. Committee recommends their acceptance, their candidacy file will be transferred for approval to the Dean of Graduate Studies, along with the number of courses required and the grade that must be attained. The minimum required number of supplementary courses in this framework is three, at an overall scope of 12 weekly semester hours, which must be completed with an average grade of at least 80. Following the dean’s approval, the candidate’s acceptance can be put into effect. Upon completing the required supplementary courses, students will re-register as applicants for a Master degree.
- Candidates who attained in their Bachelor’s degree studies a grade lower than 70 cannot be accepted to the supplementary studies track. Any deviation from this rule requires the approval of the Dean of Graduate Studies.
A candidate who wants to register as a full-time student in the direct Ph.D. track needs to meet the following conditions:
- Hold a B.A. degree from an accredited institution of higher education in Israel or abroad, with a grade of at least 90 in each major of his/her undergraduate studies.
- Fulfilled additional requirements as determined by the department.
- Submitted the following documents on time:
- Application forms.
- Certified transcript of grades for the B.A. degree, including a final weighted grade for each major.
- A statement of intentions with regard to the research topic, approved by the intended advisor.
- Written consent of the advisor who meets the criteria for advising dissertations.
- Curriculum vitae
- Two letters of recommendations from academic faculty members.
Applicants who wish to register for the direct Ph.D. program may be Master students who wish to study in a different department or departments from his/her B.A. studies. The applicant is required to meet the following conditions:
- Hold a B.A. from an accredited institution of higher education in Israel or abroad and obtained a grade of at least 90 in each major.
- Fulfilled additional requirements set by the department.
- Submitted an application and presented all required documents as specified above on time.
Discussion about applicants for the direct Ph.D. track will be held in the framework of the Departmental Ph.D. Committee. If there is no Ph.D. program in the department, the candidate’s file for acceptance to the direct Ph.D. track will be forwarded for approval to the University Committee for Research Students.
- There is no conditional status in the direct Ph.D. track.
- Acceptance to this track is possible only at the beginning of the academic year.
- Students may be accepted to the direct Ph.D. track no later than the end of the first year of their Master’s degree studies if they meet the criteria cited above and subject to their achievements in the first year of their M.A. studies.
- Departments that have no Master programs cannot accept students to the direct Ph.D. track.
